THE TURNING STEP It lies dormant on the first step Until some secret life is touched Deep within it light begins to glow When you start up the spiralling stairs Then the creature wakes And in its pursuit it sticks close To the visitor’s heels On the turning step Most worn by pilgrims At each turning step The creature’s colour grows Especially when the climber Casts no shadows But it hangs back before the top Its moan like the rustling of silk And its life span is brief As it wheels and tumbles to the first step On the turning step In centuries the A Bao A Qu Has only reached the terrace ( of the tower of victory ) once

about

This is an album produced after a 13 year hiatus - I hadn’t composed or recorded much music since 1994. I wanted to make something which described how I felt during that music-less period, sluggish and cumbersome on the ground, but now graceful again in flight - hence the title ‘Pteranodon’.

Harry Guerin in RTE Ten, describes the album as ‘Alternately scary and uplifting, subtle and epic, catchy and difficult.’ Road Records described the album as ‘Two beautiful synth driven pieces reminiscent of Krautrock’.

All titles composed by Alan Lambert.

The second part contains a song, ‘The Turning Step’, with lyrics inspired by the entry on the mythical being the ‘A Bao A Qu’, in Jorge Luis Borges’ collection of ‘Imaginary Beings’ ( first documented by C.C. Iturvuru in ‘On Malay Witchcraft’ - 1937 ).
