about

This is an album I recorded in 2008. It’s inspired by the Pre-Socratic Greek philosopher Anaxagoras, exiled to the ancient city of Lampsacus in 450 BC, for anticipating modern atomic theory. He recorded his infamous theory in a book of philosophy in which he outlined his concept of ‘Mind’ as an ordering force. Little of this book survives today except for the fragments that I’ve used as the basis for the lyrics of Desert Girl III.

I wanted to create a thematic musical soundscape that had heat, dust and a sense of a deep, deep past. An ancient lost theory of everything like Anaxagoras’ provides the right foundation.
