about

‘Trains in China’ is an album I recorded in 1991, but never finished mixing.

As far as I remember the spirit of the album is a journey of the mind through the railroads of that far eastern sub-continent - a place I did actually travel to and work in about 5 years after this envisioning.

I didn’t find the original 4 track masters but I did find several cassettes of rough mixes. So I digitised them and reassembled the album as I remember it, adding a few very minimal overdubs.

The track titles refer to a few places, atmospheric conditions and industrial phenomena that the traveler might encounter along the way.

Enjoy!
Alan

The album was recorded on cassette 4 track with guitars and pots and pans and flutes and the infamous Casio SK-5 toy sampling keyboard, with lots of ‘bouncing’, or mixing down of tracks, some time in 1991.
